My expedition around the world has started in Athens. The Parthenon is a temple dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of Athens, and its construction began in 447 BC and ended in 438 BC. The architecture's style was designed with the Doric Order. The Doric Order is...

a style of architecture where the capitals of the columns  are round, smooth, and simple as compared to the other two Orders, Ionian and Corinthian. The columns are also shorter than the other orders. A square abacus connects the capital to the entablature. With us Greeks, we didn't put a base because it was hard to walk with a base.

The Parthenon consists of a rectangular floor plan with a series of low steps on every side, and a colonnade of Doric columns extending around the perimeter of the entire temple. Each entrance has an additional six columns in front of it. There are two rooms in the Parthenon. The larger of the two interior rooms, the naos, housed the Statue of Athena. The smaller room (the opisthodomos) was used as a treasury.

The priests at the Parthenon were busy deep in prayer and offering sacrifices. I tried to ask one of them for an interview, but he just responded with, "Aiyiayiayia Atheniaiyaiya!"

For all you travelers out there, I would definitely put the Parthenon as one of my go-to destinations because of the golden statue of Athena and the intricate mosaics on the entablature. Though, the priests aren't that friendly and helpful, so its a kind of, go on your own way type of tour.

I rate the Parthenon, 8/10 Odysseus Oars
