First Olympic Games kick off 776 B.C.

Today we proudly announced the opening of the first Olympic Games in honor of our God Zeus. The Olympics are to be held every four years in Olympia. It Is a series of athletic competitions among representatives of city-states of Greece. It is an all-men event and women are not even allowed to watch in the Olympics. Only free men who speak Greek can compete. Wrestling, boxing, foot race, pentathlon (a series of 5 events:sprinting, long-jumping, javelin-hurling, discus-throwing and wrestling), and horse races are events that will take place in this festival. At the end of the game, the victors of these events go in procession to the temple of Zeus to receive their olive wreaths made out of laurel leaves, ribbons, and palm fronds. Many men all over Greece come to Olympia to take part in or watch the Olympic games, so hurry to reserve your seats to watch these intense games.
The Olympics is not just an athletic event, it is also a religious festival held in honor of the Greek god Zeus, and during the middle of the day, 100 oxen would be sacrificed to him. Greek Art : The Discus ThrowerArtistic expression is also an important part of the games. Sculptors, poets and other artisans will come to the games to display their works. Sculptors created works like Myron's Diskobolos or Discus Thrower. These sculptures usually highlight natural human movement and the shape of muscles and the body. Poets will be commissioned to write prose in honor of the Olympic victors as well.

One of the most legendary athletes in Greece, Milo of Kroton, wore the victor's crown at Olympia no less than six times. Glaukos of Karstos, an expert at boxing, will face off with another extremely dangerous boxer, Diagoras of Rhodes, in an intense battle with pain and violence!
Ladas of Argos, Lasthenes of Thebes, and Leonidas of Rhodes are three EXTREMELY FAST runners who will sprint one hundred meters and see who is the fastest of all of Greece! |

Milo a famous wrestler is one of the most legendary athletes in the ancient world. He also excelled even in warfare. When a neighboring town attacked Kroton, Milo entered the battle wearing his Olympic crowns and dressed like Herakles, in lion's skin and brandishing a club, and led his fellow citizens to victory. Milo loved showing off his strength and would make other people try to take something from his hand but always fails.

Diagoras is a very famous boxer and embodied every quality of a noble athlete. Diagoras was not only victorious in the Olympic Games but in other festival as well. Diagoras' family was of the noble, ruling class on Rhodes, and the Rhodians claimed that the boxer himself was the son of the god Hermes.
